Wayward Adults

It is widely known that only children can find doorways to other worlds. It is one of the sacrifices people make to grow up, that those strange and wild places are forever closed to them. Most adults stop believing in such childish nonsense, which may lead some to believe that belief is the key to finding another world, but that is not the case. Rather, it is need that opens the doorway. Long ago it was thought that adults, having grown up and out of their childhood problems, no longer needed the other worlds.

This, of course, was not true at all.

Adults merely traded in childhood problems for adult ones, pains into aches and scars, or never really grew up at all, not on the inside. So the counsel of the realms decided to open the doors to adults for the first time in a thousand years, so that they too might fall through in a time of desperate need to fight their demons and heal their wounds.
